Children learn through play, therefore our mission is based on developing the “whole child” through playful interaction within the environment. Each child is unique and develops individually, therefore our program is learning center based. This allows for active, play-orientated learning in which children learn about themselves, their environment, and others. Activities are designed to facilitate different levels of ability, as well as, development and learning styles. Our outdoor play area is designed for play in a natural play environment where children can discover themselves and the world around them as they experience nature.
We provide each child with an opportunity to develop positive self-image, independence, and assurance in a safe, yet stimulating, environment. This allows for children to grow socially and academically. The staff at the Jamestown Early Learning Center, along with the partnership of each child’s families, provide a safe and secure environment away from home.
Our program is center based. The classrooms are designed to achieve curricular goals through center play. Centers are designed to relate to the world of active learners and planned to encourage their involvement.
The centers in our classroom encourage the children to be active learners which allows them to make their own choices with guidance from teachers. The classrooms are arranged so as to allow the children to move, communicate, and explore. Children may move freely from center to center and initiate conversations with other children. In this environment, children can build confidence and strengthen their belief that they are capable learners.
Our programs are inclusive and support children and families of all abilities. We collaborate with Early Intervention and Child Outreach programs as well as the services at the Jamestown Public School.
